Change of generations at Manchester United?

Posted on | April 15, 2010 | No Comments

If not so long ago everyone expected that this season will be at least as glorious as the previous year for United, here in the end seems more like a missed season.

Within weeks everything has changed for Manchester United. They were knocked out of Champions League by Bayern who led on away goals, they lost the Premier League lead and more than that they are at 4 points behind Chealsea with only four rounds to go.

So Alex Ferguson thought it’s time to change the team by giving more credit to youngsters and by transferring some big names from World football that can bring back the glory of other times.

The first thing is to find a replacement for Van der Sar who is nearing 40. The first names on the list are Buffon from Juventus and Akinfeev from TSKA Moscova. In defence Rafael and Jonny Evans should replace Neville who is close to retirement  and Rio Ferdinand who’s work rate decreases with every passing day because of his back problems.

Also United’s midfield needs some changes where Giggs and Scholes showed that they can not cope with the infernal program from Premier League. They are only a backup solution in case of an injury or they can be a solution for the end of the games when their experience may be beneficial. Gibson could be a solution there, he already demonstrated this season, or David Silva from Valencia.

In attack although Rooney is in great form, it seems that is not enough to make a new glorious season. So besides the young Mexican Javier Hernandez, who is touted as the new Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Ferguson wants to bring another top class forward to replace Berbatov and Owen.

Benzema could be a solution who was a target for Manchester also last summer.
