Michael Essien could be out for six months

Michael Essien suffered a knee injury during national game lost by Ghana against Libya on Sunday.

The injury seems to be worse than was thought innitialy and he will need an operation.
Essien‘s agent Fabien Piveteau declared that there is a big problem and that this is the second or third time when he suffered a blow at that knee.
Essien played only two games for Chelsea this season and now after this injury coach Felipe Scolari will have serrious problems at the midfield considering that Michael Ballack is also injured and John Obi Mikel just returned to training.
Chelsea will play the next match against Man City on Saturday, when Didier Drogba is also expected to play after knee injury.

Federer wins fifth consecutive US Open

In the US Open men’s final Roger Federer beat Andy Murray 6-2, 7-5, 6-2 and became the first men who won five titles in a row at US Open and at Wimbledon.
This is his 13th major championship, just one from Pete Sampras record.

Federer has also has three titles at Australian Open but he never won at Roland Garros.
The match ended in less then two hours being shorter than the two sets women final.
Federer dominated the entire match taking control and placing his shots in the right places.
With this performance Federer showed that he is not done and that he can be again number one.
Federer remains on second position in the ATP standings while Murray reach the forth position behind Nadal, Federer and Djokovic.
Federer declared that he is very happy with the win and that he will not stop at 13 for sure.
He also wanted to thanks to the fans saying that they were incredible.

Recoba moves to Panionios on a free transfer

After a long time being associated with Internationale Milano the Uruguayan player Alvaro Recoba has joined Greek club Panionios.
After his agreement with Inter has expired in the closed season, the 32 year old midfield became free agent and agreed on a two year contract move to the Greek club.

The eleven years relationship between Inter and Alvaro Recoba finally ended , and after being in the Top fight in the Italian Serie A Alvaro says good bye and moves for a fresh new challenge in the Greek league.

Alvaro Recoba arrived at Inter from Danubio FC in the 1997/98 season. He established himself at the San Siro after a loan spell with AC Venezia, going on to score 53 goals in 175 Serie A appearances for the Nerazzurri.
He was also part of Inter‘s Scudetto-winning team of 2006/07, having lifted the UEFA Cup in 1998 and the Coppa Italia in both 2005 and 2006. Recoba spent last term at Torino FC, featuring 22 times in the league.

Being regarded as one of the most talented players, Alvaro Recoba seems to have ended his career at the top level or can he prove at his new club that he still has more to show?

Can Shakhtar Donetsk save this season?

Shakhtar has a disastrious start of the season with only 7 points from 7 matches and it looks like there are no chances for the title this year.

Shakhtar are occupying the 11th place at 11 points from Metalurh Donetsk and 9 from rivals Dynamo Kiev. Premier League winners for three of the past four years, Shakhtar won only 1 game and made 4 draws.
The only consolation until now is the qualifying into the Champions League Group phase where they will meet Barcelona, Sporting and Basel.
FC Shakhtar Donetsk coach, Mircea Lucescu hopes that the team will recover from this bad form and will battle again for the title.
Lucescu is demanding more concentration from his players and also hopes that there will not be other injury problems.
There are speculations that Rinat Ahmetov is allready searching for a replacement of Lucescu.
If the victories will come there are chances for Lucescu to stay, but we have to wait and see.

Massa wins Belgian GP

Felipe Massa was declared the winner of the Belgian GP after Lewis Hamilton was penalised with 25 seconds because of a illegal move. Hamilton who started from pole position led only one lap being passed by Raikkonen. Raikkonen then dominated the race and looked like he would win his fourth strait Belgian GP, but the rain came and Hamilton annulled the advantage.

At the halfway point Raikkonen was in front of Hamilton with 5.5 seconds.
After second pit stop, when there were only 15 laps to go Hamilton closed at 2 seconds. Then Hamilton, who is regarded as the best driver of his generation in the rain, had an interesting fight for the first place with Raikkonen.
At a moment Hamilton cutted the corner and took an advantage but he returned behind Kimi. Hamilton and Raikkonen almost crashed but after some spectacular moves from Hamilton he manage to avoid that and took the lead. Hamilton crossed the line with 14.4 seconds ahead Massa after Raikkonen crash his car into the side railings.
The stewards considered that Hamilton made an illegal move when he cutted the corner in front of Raikkonen and penalised him with 25 seconds. After this penalty Hamilton took the third place with Massa and Heidfeld taken the first two places. With only five races left, Hamilton leads the standings with 76 points being closely followed by Massa with 74 points.
The next race is the Italian Grand Prinx in Monza next Sunday.
