Big four is hurt

After losing some important players from the first eleven such as Adebayor or Toure, Arsenal are getting away  from the title that Wenger is waiting for since 2004. The speculations regarding Fabregas transfer are also a major concern for “The Gunners” manager. City are ready to offer €57 millions for him but there are also other teams interested.

Besides all these Tottenham showed them that they deserve to play in Europa League by winning against them on White Hart. With this victory Tottenham not only destroyed any title hope for Arsenal, considering the heavy games left but also the injuries, but also distance themselves 5 points ahead sixth place occupied by Liverpool.

Manchester United look like a tired old team and considering Ferguson declarations most certainly there will be some changes in the summer.

City remains on fourth place which ensures a place in Champions League qualifications.

At Liverpool everything seems to go wrong. After some less inspired transfers, Benitez had the misfortune of having the best players, Gerard and Torres, injured for a pretty long period of time.

If Aston Villa is sure of his place in Europa League because of the participation in League Cup Final, Liverpool is in danger of loosing it. Portsmouth also despite being already relegated have chances of playing in Europa League after playing in FA Cup Final. Anyway they have some big problems with the finances and it’s not sure if their request of playing in European Cups will be granted. In this case the only chance for Liverpool is by winning the Europa League.

Ancelotti seems to have a good season at Chelsea even from his first season at Stamford Bridge and looks like a coach able to keep his team on top of the Premier League. Chelsea are also in the FA CUp final were they will meet Portsmouth.

If in England everything goes well in Champions League the results were not so good, where they were eliminated by Inter.

European Championships overview – season 2009 – 2010

If in recent years we were used that in the most powerful European Championships to have the same three four teams fighting for the title it seems that the things have changed this year.

In Premier League, Manchester United used to make the law while Chelsea, Liverpool and Arsenal have tried to keep the pace. This year Chelsea seems to take his place while Manchester City are very close to a big achievement, Champions League qualification.

Inter also dominated the Seria A championship for the last four years and Roma, Milan or Juventus battling for the next places. The Romans have big chances of winning the Serie A title this year if they will manage to keep the form. Also Palermo are favorites for a Champions League place while Juventus will have to fight only for a Europa League place.

In Spain we can not say the same thing. Barcelona and Real Madrid are still the Primera candidates and Malorca seems to be the surprise. Valencia, Sevilla and Malorca will fight for the two Championship places.

Bundesliga Champions have changed almost every year in the last couple of season. Anyway this season Bayern seems to be the favorites. Leverkusen and Shalke have still chances for the title while Werder, Hamburg, Stuttgart and Wolsburg will fight for a Europa League place.

Lyon is by far the greatest French team with seven consecutive titles. Anyway Laurent Blanc and co have stole the title last year and Marseille have big chances of doing the same this year.

In Holland were Ajax and PSV used to share the titles some years ago, the title favorites are Twente. Alkmaar were the last year champions.

With all this said the football betting fans will enjoy higher quota for the next year winners.

Change of generations at Manchester United?

0

If not so long ago everyone expected that this season will be at least as glorious as the previous year for United, here in the end seems more like a missed season.

Within weeks everything has changed for Manchester United. They were knocked out of Champions League by Bayern who led on away goals, they lost the Premier League lead and more than that they are at 4 points behind Chealsea with only four rounds to go.

So Alex Ferguson thought it’s time to change the team by giving more credit to youngsters and by transferring some big names from World football that can bring back the glory of other times.

The first thing is to find a replacement for Van der Sar who is nearing 40. The first names on the list are Buffon from Juventus and Akinfeev from TSKA Moscova. In defence Rafael and Jonny Evans should replace Neville who is close to retirement  and Rio Ferdinand who’s work rate decreases with every passing day because of his back problems.

Also United’s midfield needs some changes where Giggs and Scholes showed that they can not cope with the infernal program from Premier League. They are only a backup solution in case of an injury or they can be a solution for the end of the games when their experience may be beneficial. Gibson could be a solution there, he already demonstrated this season, or David Silva from Valencia.

In attack although Rooney is in great form, it seems that is not enough to make a new glorious season. So besides the young Mexican Javier Hernandez, who is touted as the new Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Ferguson wants to bring another top class forward to replace Berbatov and Owen.

Benzema could be a solution who was a target for Manchester also last summer.

Will Portsmouth play in Europa League next year?

0

Despite being relegated to the English Second Division with only five games to play this season, Portsmouth have big chances of playing in Europa League next year.

Portsmouth have qualified to FA Cup Final after a dramatic game with Tottenham, won after extra time with 2-0. After regular time the score was 0-0. Piquionne managed to open the score in 99 minute and Boateng doubled it in 117 minute.

Portsmouth will play Chelsea in FA Cup Final, which already has a place in Champions League for the next season. The club has debts of approximately €90 million and was already placed in juridical administration and a possible participation in Europa League would bring additional revenue.

But there is still a very important step to go for Portsmouth because they have not asked Uefa for permission of playing in Europe competitions before the deadline, which was in March.

Now the only thing remained for Portsmouth is to fight for their right to play in Europe.
