Unfortunately for Liverpool fans what they feared most happened in the last hour of the transfer period. Fernando Torres signed for rivals Chelsea for a record sum of £50millions.

The fans have reacted immediately. They protested against the club because of the sale and burned Torres shirt. Chelsea will face Liverpool after Sunderland game and “The Reds” fans are expected to continue the protests.

The transfer sum is one of the biggest amount paid by Premier League sides and also one of the biggest from all time around the World. This move reminded us about the early Abramovic era when he used to spent huge amount of money on players.

Liverpool already assured the services of Luis Suarez from Ajax for €27 millions and as a replacement for “El Nino” they brought Andy Caroll the new England sensation from Newcastle for £35 millions. This is another record sum but this time for English players. The previous record was held by Manchester United who brought Ferdinand from Leeds United.

Torres had a special relation with the fans and it seemed that he will remain at Liverpool but he eventually chose to leave. The 26 year old forward declared that the main reason for leaving Liverpool was because of not playing in Champions League.

Torres scored an amazing 81 goals in 142 games for Liverpool and 26 goals in 82 appearances for Spain.
